Cover
Intelligent mineral prospectivity mapping (MPM) is a promising frontier in mineral exploration. However, due to the complexity of mineralization processes, the rarity of mineralization events, the diversity of mineralization features, and the black-box nature of artificial intelligence, intelligent MPM faces several challenges, including inadequate representation of geological prospecting data and their spatial coupling relationships, insufficient training samples, poor model robustness, limited generalization capability, and lack of interpretability. The cover image illustrates the inherent complexity of the mineralization system, as well as the key challenges and opportunities in intelligent MPM. The mineralization system is formed by the coupling of multiple critical elements under stringent conditions, with its spatiotemporal distribution exhibiting complex characteristics such as nonlinearity. Currently, while intelligent MPM has improved the efficiency of mineral exploration, it also confronts numerous challenges. New-generation AI models represented by graph neural networks, with their more powerful and flexible learning and representation capabilities, provide significant opportunities for gaining profound insights into and capturing the complexity of the mineralization system.
